Meet The TU20 Team!

This month we have a unique TU20 of the month article featuring four members of our executive team. As we wrap up the year, we wanted to share our experiences about leading TU20, Enjoy!

“I found out about TU20 through a friendly teacher of mine. He said it would be a great experience being exposed to the world of technology and to the Halton community. I was so grateful to be a part of the team this year. I participated in the software development team and ran the chapter at White Oaks! It was an enriching experience and it definitely helped me find my summer job. Through many ‘ups’ and ‘downs’ I am proud to say that our TU20 season was a success; from the TU20 Cup, to the Learn2GetHired Nights, to the local chapters. I plan on continuing to work closely with the team to further expand our community. Cannot wait till next year!”

“This year was my first year joining TU20, and being part of the executive team, which was quite an experience. Leading and organizing different initiatives that helped students with their future pathways was a great honor for me, knowing that what I contributed aided others. This year was a very memorable one, as I experienced a lot and saw the organization grow as a result of our contributive effort. My favorite memory from this past year was at the Learn2GetHired event. We had quite a few employers and eager students, and the interviewing process went well, with a lot of students who at the beginning were very nervous emerging as confident with their pitching at the end.

A couple of the students and even employers came up to me, thanking me for organizing and leading such a great event, which made me proud and happy, knowing that my efforts were appreciated and helped make a difference in others’ lives. However, this year was not entirely full of achievements; with each one there was a difficulty or some kind of obstacle faced, but through team effort we solved each one that came our way and overall the year was a success”

“This was my first year formally participating in TU20 and it was a blast. Initially it was a bit of a struggle to get some traction and get a consistent attendance base within our school chapter, but the chapter really found it’s spot once we got started with our Raspberry Pi project (shoutout to MTechHub for the donation). My favourite memory throughout the entire year was participating in the Tech Under 20 Cup. This gave me both the opportunity to try to make a new project, as well see some of the ideas that the bright and creative minds in our community came up with. The event was a huge success and I think everyone felt the same as I did in that we came out of it with much more than we had going into it. Overall this year has had its ups and downs (like anything in tech), but I wouldn’t hesitate to do it over again, and hope that people continue to get involved to maintain this thriving community that has been established by Denys and Silicon Halton as a whole.”

“This year was my first full year leading TU20, and I really enjoyed the experience. Seeing the organization grow and hosting some very memorable events made this a great year to look back on. My favourite memory from this year was at the TU20 cup. We had some very impressive presentations from students of all ages; ranging from middle school to first year university. A couple of parents came up to me and thanked me for organizing the event, which is always pleasant to know that what you are doing is making a difference in peoples’ lives. The year was not completely rosy; there were a number of times where things went wrong at every possible stage, but we made do and overall I would call this year a success. We’re looking to build of these successes and continue to build our local tech community.””
